Last weekend the season ended with three teams coming together, Fakenham playing hosts to Holt and West Norfolk, with all teams depleted in usual strength by the Easter break.
The first match saw Fakenham play Holt/West Norfolk, with the home side putting on early pressure to see Watsy over the try line in the first five minutes although Holt soon responded with their own converted try. Fakenham were undeterred and Henry scored with a conversion from Lloyd to see a half-time score 12-7. A quickly taken penalty in Fakenham's 22 allowed
Holt to run in an unconverted try but the home side were able to come back from a scrum with Lloyd scoring and converting for a final score 19-12.
The second game was a combined Fakenham/Holt side v West Norfolk. West Norfolk were strong from the start and took the lead early on with a series of good runs from their backs and pressure from their pack giving a half-time score of 5-26. The second half saw changes in the Fakenham/Holt side which seemed to give a better balance as the combined side fought back with further tries from Henry, Frosty and Harry Simms but West Norfolk held their own to finally win 27-49. Two very enjoyable games of rugby produced by all three of the sides, with play that would not have been out of place in a sevens tournament played in front of a good sized appreciative crowd.
Fakenham have had a successful season this year with 8 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses, a good result with a small but enthusiastic squad. They progressed to the semi-finals of the cup, losing out finally to the eventual winners, North Walsham. Training will continue during the summer with Tag rugby for all ages at the club, this is open to old and new players and we look forward to the new season in September. A big thank you to everyone who has put in time and effort to make this such a good season. For further details and information see the the Club website http://www.fakenhamrugby.com
