Foxes 21 Hitchen 31
The Foxes finally kicked off their season with their first match against Hitchin. Despite lacking in numbers the Foxes were full of energy and enthusiasm and Sunday's team included 2 new players making their Foxes debut. The Foxes started well, launching an intense attack on the opposition, remaining in their half for the first 15 minutes. Unfortunately the Foxes failed to capitalise so the first try came from Hitchin who were eventually able to break away and make good use of the pace they had on the wing. One try led to another despite some strong defence by the Foxes so by the end of the first half the score sat at 0-17.
The second half began with Hitchin adding another try to their tally which was converted. At this point the Foxes had had enough and came back strong scoring a great try through Mandy Warren driving the ball over as the forwards ploughed through to cross the line. After this was converted by the captain, Hannah Beard, the score line started to look somewhat better at 7-17. Alas, it was not long before Hitchin came back with another try to strengthen their lead. Eventually some further strong play by the Foxes forwards created enough space for Hannah to find a hole in the Hitchin defensive line evading 3 further players to score a superb second try between the posts, which she iced off by adding the conversion. The game went on with both teams battling hard. To end the match on a high, with a minute of play remaining, the Foxes made another break through the Hitchin line to score their third and final try of the match, converted by Angie Waterson. The final score was Fakenham Foxes 21-31 Hitchin. Hitchin played with great sportsmanship throughout and it was a brilliant game, enjoyed by all. The Foxes are always looking for new players to join the team we train Wednesday nights at Fakemham Rugby Club 6:45pm-8:30pm. Come and give rugby a go!
