Eastern Counties Division 1
Fakenham 61 - 0 Great Yarmouth & Broadland
A sunny Saturday afternoon saw Fakenham hosting Great Yarmouth & Broadland for the second fixture of the league season. Fakenham, playing for the 1st time in a new kit, won the game 61 points to nil but this scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story.
The first half was dominated by Fakenham with tries coming from Murray Tindall (2), Adam Lingwood, Henry Hepworth-Smith and Ian Williamson along with 3 conversions from Tom Bane Young. The highlight of these was Tindalls 2nd which came after strong forwards carries on the right before the ball went wide to the left wing and slick pop off-loads between the back line allowed TIndall to gallop through and score under the posts.
Broadland regrouped at half time and came out stronger. Fakenham on the other hand took their finger off the pace and lost their composure. Sloppy handling along with white line fever meant Fakenham were unable to increase their score for next 25 minutes. Despite this their defence held firm and Broadland were unable to get close to the Fakenham line. In the end Fakenham regained their composure and ran in a further 4 trys through Tindall, Bane Young and Jordi Walker (2) taking the final score to a commanding 61-0.
The afternoon came to a close with Henry Hepworth-Smith being voted Norfolk Brewhouse Man of the Match. A particular mention also goes to the sponsors of the new kit; Peniston Ltd, The Gallery Bistro and Gastbys Barbers.
