Another game and yet another bonus point win for Fakenham giving them a clean slate of beating all of the opposing teams in the league with bonus points in all games – however, this headline was only part of the story. Beccles started well taking the play into the Fakenham half with their more physical side and they scored the first try of the game after 19 minutes to lead 7-0. Fakenham then gathered themselves together after this setback and 6 minutes later Brett Stolworthy ran in an excellent try on the right wing to pull the score back to 7-5. Fakenham were now getting settled into their game plan and 2 minutes later Lloyd Marshall scored under the posts after a good backs passing move that came directly from the restart, 7-10. Beccles not to be outdone scored an unconverted try shortly after, their physical game proving awkward for the much lighter and faster Fakenham side, 12-10. The pattern of play persisted with Beccles camped out in the Fakenham half only to see the speed of the Fakenham side breakout and run the ball toward the Beccles line before they had a chance to do anything about it. Two more scores to Fakenham in the first half saw the half time score 12-27.

The half time team talk had some effect and the second half was not

quite so dominated by the Beccles power as Fakenham tried to stick to their own game plan when the chances allowed with some slick handling, running lines and offloads, 2 tries to Fakenham and one to Beccles being the outcome to take the final score to 17-36 even though Beccles had greater territorial possession.

The Fakenham Norfolk Brewhouse Man of the match was awarded jointly to Brett Stolworthy and Jordii Walker for their outstanding performances.

Beccles played well and were a very physical side but the speed and game play of Fakenham won in the end. Fakenham can certainly draw some lessons from both the Beccles game and the previous week against a similarly physical Swaffham side, whether it is invincibility/complacency creeping in or the thought that they can take on physical sides at their own game, something needs to change slightly or else the 100% winning streak will almost certainly come to an end – when playing their own game they are more than a match for any other side in the Division but they will need to play the right way at next weeks game away to Broadlands Gt Yarmouth, yet another large pack that play a distinctly physical game, start 2:30.

Fakenham 2nd’s were playing away against Norwich 3rd’s and lost 64-19. The Norwich side had a strong pack and dominated the scrum. With a strong wind at their backs they took full advantage leading 29-0 at half time. Fakenham rallied in the second half scoring 19 points but with two players involved in their first adult game Fakenham found it difficult to contain their hosts. As fatigue set in Fakenham’s defence fell off tackles allowing the hosts to pile on the points. The Fakenham team tried to keep going to look for the bonus point try but never managed to cross the line for the forth time. Norwich finished worthy winner but knew they had been in a game from a plucky under strength Fakenham team.
