Fakenham travelled to Watton for this Norfolk Merit Table Division 1 game in good spirits on a fine spring afternoon which looked conducive to good handling and running rugby, and so it proved to be. Fakenham were playing up the hill and with the wind for the first half and enjoyed the majority of the possession and territory. Ten minutes into the game Josh Gee wriggled free and sprinted off and scored the opening try, which was converted by Paul Richardson - 0-7 to Fakenham. Two minutes later, after a period of possession and good inter-passing, Mark Allen ran in the second try, also converted by Paul Richardson (0-14). A period of intense pressure from Fakenham followed without actually producing any further points until Watton infringed at a ruck and gave Richardson a chance to stretch the lead with a penalty kick shortly before the whistle for half time with the score 0-17 in Fakenham's favour.
Watton started the second half up the hill but with the wind in a similar
manner to Fakenham with a sustained period of attack and good defence against Fakenham's attack and they were rewarded for their efforts with a converted try (7-17). Gee then chased through on a kick which was badly missfielded by the Watton fullback letting Gee gather the loose ball and sprint 40 metres to score under the post making the conversion easy for Richardson and the score 7-24 - this being the final action of the game.
Fakenham first team travel to Beccles seconds for a NMT div 1 next week whilst Fakenham seconds are still looking for a fixture.
