Felixstowe 35 Fakenham 28 – Eastern Counties 2

Fakenham travelled to Felixtowe in good spirits despite only having thirteen men for this EC2 game because of an unprecedented amount of unavailability and injuries.
The game started with Fakenham on top and pressing the game which seemed took Felixstowe by surprise and they found themselves defending against the team with the fewer players. Fakenham took full advantage with Tom Bane-Young forcing his way through the Felixstowe defence to score under

The better side win on the day

Saturday saw a visit from Hadleigh in Essex who, like Fakenham, had to drop out of higher leagues a few years ago and work their way back up again. They made a very aggressive start to the match and soon had Fakenham under pressure resulting in a penalty for Hadleigh which opened the scoring. Fakenham responded quickly to level the game at 3 all through a penalty from Tom Bain-Young. Hadleigh again progressed into the Fakenham half and this time secured a try which was not converted. The home team replied quickly with another penalty from TB-Y to make the score 6 : 8. The game

A good win against Norwich Union

Fakenham travelled to this EC2 fixture in high spirits and with a healthy respect for their opposition as NU had run Thetford very close a fortnight before (Thetford had defeated Fakenham 7-31 in the first round of league fixtures). The long awaited day when ex-youth prop Craig Prior reached his 18th birthday and was eligible to play front row for the adult team arrived and he duly got the start. Simon Bygrave was also included on the bench for his first outing with Fakenham. Fakenham started brightly enough, forcing the attack, and were rewarded with a penalty converted by Tom Bane-Young (0-3). The Norwich Union forwards then took charge of both the ball and

A good win for Fakenham

Fakenham entertained Mistley rugby club from Essex in a Eastern Counties 2 League game at Fakenham. The pre-match luncheon was attended by 4 Mistley committee members
Fakenham had a poor start to the game when failing to deal with the opening kick-off meant one of the Fakenham players was caught in possession and was forced to hold on to the ball a bit too long which gave Mistley a very kickable penalty they happily accepted (0-3). Fakenham then pushed the attack and 6 minutes later drew level through a Tom Bane-Young penalty kick (3-3). Mistley then scored another penalty 4 minutes later (3-6) and it wes starting to look as though it might be one of those games. Fakenham went

Mildenhall Red Lodge 0 Fakenham 12

Fakenham travelled to Red Lodge for the third EC2 league game of the season with quite a few changes from their away defeat to Thurston. On inspection, the Mildenhall pitch was smaller than Fakenham's home pitch which caused a bit of congestion in the middle of the pitch, both sides attacking and contesting the rucks and mauls ferociously. Both sides had periods in the opposition 22 metre area and created chances but the last pass was generally wild or knocked on to stop the progression. The deadlock was broken when Mildenhall infringed at a ruck 30 metres out to concede a penalty, which was converted by Tom Bane-Young (0-3). The pattern of the game continued with both sides trying to assert themselves only to be thwarted by good defence with the occasional break, Fakenham looking the more likely to score and when a second penalty was awarded against Mildenhall for a dangerous tackle, Fakenham doubled their lead from the boot of Tom Bane-Young 0-6 this was the score at half time. This was the first time Fakenham had led since their re-entry in to the EC leagues and their spirits were high.
The second half started with Fakenham trying to score a try to stretch
