Fakenham seconds travelled to Swaffham to play only their second game of the season and gave a good account of themselves but lost 46-19. Fakenham's scored three tries and two conversions, the tries from Jack Moore and George Loads with the third from debutant in adult rugby Ben Butterfield. The two conversions were made by Dave Savage and he was only denied the third conversion by the crossbar. Unfortunately Fakenham did not have a full side due to some players not turning out. We all play for the club and that means both sides need to be viable for the club to progress and develop. Fakenham
Fakenham took a mixed team squad over to play Holt third team to give some of their players who have been missing out on games a run out. Holt, as always, proved to be worthy adversaries and kept Fakenham on their toes throughout the game. Fakenham had the edge in turning pressure into points but did not have the game all their own way and were forced to play hard for all their scores. Holt had some good players but lost two of them to blood injuries and although they had replacements it did seriously affect their style of play and Fakenham took advantage of this. In the first half Fakenham managed to score two tries from George Ready and Steven Clay, and Lloyd Marshall converted both.
The second half saw a bigger tally of tries due to the aforementioned changes in personnel in the Holt side and
A last minute defeat for the 2nd's
With no League action for the First Team at the weekend, Fakenham 2nd played Thetford 2nd in a very close, friendly Woodfordes Merit Table 3 encounter where 14 of the games 17 points where scored in the last five minutes.
Thetford had the better of the initial opening and scored a penalty early on in the first half with their scrum looking functional and their backs fairly lively. Although Fakenham had the majority of possession most of it was unfortunately in their own half and they struggled to break through some impressive defensive work by Thetford into the oppositions territory leaving the game finely balanced, at 3 nil, in the visitors favour at half time.
After the restart the home side again had most of the possession
A Game at last!
Fakenham travelled to Great Yarmouth for only their second actual game of the season (the rest with one exception had all been cancelled by the opposition) to play Broadlands third team for a friendly game in dark and gloomy conditions with a light drizzle. The game started as it meant to continue with both sides playing at full tilt in the wet conditions and forcing errors in the other teams handling whilst they were attacking. Broadlands had the better of the first 10minutes as they pressed the Fakenham team back into their own 22 metre area. Each time Fakenham tried to relieve the pressure they turned the ball over usually from a knock on or being isolated in a ruck. It was 30 minutes into the game before the deadlock was broken
Fakenham entertained Norwich Union in this Norfolk Merit Table 3 game. It was always going to be a tough game as Fakenham started the game one player short but things looked up for Fakenham when they took the lead with a well worked move down the right wing wide out near to touch which with the angle meant the try went unconverted. The game was played from end to end with Union having the stronger forwards and Fakenham the stronger backs but neither side creating clear cut chances, until Union crossed the line for a converted try (5-7). It is fair to say that Union had the better of the rest of the half making the extra player count leaving Fakenham chasing the overlaps. Union managed to score two more tries, the first one was converted leaving the score at half time at 5-19 in Unions favour.
Fakenham struck early in the second half with an intricate run pass
