It was with some trepidation that Fakenham visited Norwich for this Eastern Counties 2 game as early season lack of players was still apparent and it was a much younger inexperienced side than would usually be considered normal for the First team. The game started really quickly with Fakenham on the offensive and Man of the Match Adam 'Keith' Steele scoring the first of his hat trick of tries for Fakenham in their first league win of the season. The first half went along a similar line to last week with a good start followed by a lack of focus by the team for the rest of the half, although this was less of a problem as Norwich seemed to have similar problems and the constant
blowing of the referees whistle did nothing to encourage any sort of flow to the game. Half time was reached with just the one score to show for it and a lead of 7-0 to Fakenham. The second half started and continued in a much better fashion with Fakenham far more focussed on their own game organised well by the half back partnership of Tom Bane-Young and Paul Richardson, and they cut many in roads into the Norwich defence. With both the scrum and lineout functioning well and the backs running with increased confidence, Fakenham took control of the second half, allowing 'Keith to score his other two tries and Paul Ruston unlucky not to score on his return from long term illness and injury.
Apart from a 5 minute period where Fakenham eased off and allowed Norwich to score twice it was a real team effort that led to Fakenham being deserved winners and it was delightful to see the younger players such as Rory, Henry, Harry and Ash having such good games.
Next week is also an away fixture at Holt with kick off at possibly 2:00pm (all the games so far have had different start time just to keep every one on their toes).
